Wojciech Wieczorek’s currently being prepared Ph.D. research Focus on creation of high-speed train dynamic models. They may be much more realistic and accurate than currently used Eurocode’s approach which assumes train models as single point forces moving on the structure. Research assumes creation of model consisting of masses and springs, what influences the final response of the bridge during train movement.


Influence of the vertical deflection of a bridge span with a concrete ballast trough on the stresses occurring in rails.

There are three calculation cases. Case 1: track equipped with rail fastenings which have a “softening” effect on the resultant longitudinal track resistance, case 2: track having the longitudinal resistance according to Eurocode EN 1991:2: 2003, and case 3: super stiff longitudinal resistance (for comparison). In order to check the influence of the deflection on the stresses in the rails, a 3D FE numerical model was developed which reflected a real bridge located near Dębica, line E30, km 108+404 whose parameters and dimensions were known. These parameters were implemented into the numerical model consisting of solid and interface elements. Two cases were analyzed: for summer conditions (smaller longitudinal resistance) and winter conditions (larger longitudinal resistance for “frozen” ballast). The obtained results indicate that in all of the three track cases a negative increment of stresses in the rails occurs, which means an increment of tension in the rails.

2. Natural frequency: comparison of 2D and 3D FEM models with site measurements for rail bridge over Kisielina River in Lesser Poland.

While being basic dynamic analysis, modal analysis is also important part of whole dynamic design process. The article presents natural frequencies coming from bar-shell and solid numerical models and compares them with results obtained while site measurements. All values are strongly interpreteted. Publication in progress.

Comparison of solar collector and central heating efficiency. Summary of prices with choosing the most optimal solution for single-detached house.

The article presents values of heat gained by solar collectors for single-detached house. Then, the traditional approach (using of central-heating only) is analysed. Results are compared and rate of return for solar collectors investment is presented.
